The Dutch cyclist Bas van Belle (2000), from the Club Wielerploeg Groot Amsterdam category team, has died suddenly this Friday, September 27.
Visma Lease a Bike, a team in which his older brother, Loe van Belle, plays, has issued a statement regretting what happened: “We are deeply saddened by the sudden death of his brother and his son, Bas.”
“Our thoughts are with you and your loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” he concludes.
Likewise, the Dutch cycling association has also reported the tragic news through a statement that has published on its website.
“We are sorry for his loss, Bas leaves a great void in the world of cycling. Our thoughts are with his family. We will remember him as a friendly and kind-hearted person, as well as a talented cyclist,” the statement stated.
The sad news coincides with the death of Muriel Furrer, 18-year-old cyclist who suffered a tragic accident this Thursday in the World Cup event being held in Zurich.
Throughout his career, the Dutchman was part of the continental team of Luxembourg Leopard Pro Cycling between 2019 and 2020.
