You can count on Milla Jovovich to star in an action film, and this time, it’s not from her infamous filmmaking husband.
THR broke the story that Jovovich is attached to star in the action-thriller Protector from Adrian Grünberg (Rambo: Last Blood). The screenplay comes from Bong-Seeb Mun.
The film follows Jovovich playing Nikki, a former war hero who believed she had left her violent past behind to raise her daughter, Chloe, in peace. When she wakes up in an abandoned factory and learns that Chloe has been kidnapped, Nikki has to navigate the city’s criminal underworld, pursued by both the cops and the military, to get her daughter back.
Kenneth Kim, Bang-Ok Joo, and Bong-Seeb Mun are set to produce for Aanaxion Studio, together with Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier for Highland Film Group. Highland Film Group is co-financing the project and will handle worldwide rights. Ho-Sung Pak is also attached as a producer and the film’s stunt coordinator.
Jovovich has been a staple in action entertainment for nearly thirty years. After breaking out in 1997’s The Fifth Element, the actress became the face of the Resident Evil film franchise while starring in Zoolander, The Three Musketeers, Hellboy, and more. She’ll next appear in Paul W.S. Anderson’s In the Lost Lands alongside Dave Bautista, and recently signed on to star in the zombie horror George A. Romero’s Twilight of the Dead.
Production on Protector is slated to begin this winter in New Mexico.
