During the six-year term, 330 thousand new places will be created in public and free higher education institutions, announced President Claudia Sheinbaum.
The president also announced, in her morning conference, that a budget of around 5 billion additional pesos will be allocated for new schools, from basic education to higher education.
The new professional spaces will be created at the Rosario Castellanos University, the Health University and the Benito Juárez García Universities for Wellbeing, in which 90 campuses will be created, as well as the National Technological Institute of Mexico and the National Polytechnic Institute.
According to the head of the Executive, for years spaces for public universities were closed, which – she said – “was part of the neoliberal model that did not consider education as a right, but as a privilege.”
In that sense, he recalled that “those who passed an admission exam had the possibility of studying at the university or at a polytechnic institute. In reality the admission exams were nothing more than a funnel and it is not that the students were not prepared.”
The Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado, specified that the Rosario Castellanos University will create 30 new locations and 150 thousand new places, to have a total enrollment of 206 thousand spaces.
Likewise, the Health University will create 10 new headquarters and 25 thousand new spaces, to reach a total enrollment of 29 thousand; The Benito Juárez García Universities for Wellbeing will create 50 new locations and 40 thousand new places, to reach a total enrollment of 110 thousand spaces.
The National Technology Institute of Mexico will only create 85 thousand new spaces, and the National Polytechnic Institute, 30 thousand new places.
Rosaura Ruiz, who will head the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation, reported that, in its first phase, a campus of the Rosario Castellanos National University will be established in Comitán, Chiapas, while in Tijuana, Baja California, they will be created a campus from the Universidad de la Salud and one from Rosario Castellanos.
He indicated that the schools will be created in the Wellbeing Poles and will offer a degree in foreign trade, economics and sustainable development, engineering in renewable energy for development and postgraduate degrees in education and culture of peace.
