In November 2022, The Brisbane Times published three articles concerning a 35-year-old man and his 41-year-old partner who worked in a Brisbane theatre company and who had been charged by police.
Those articles incorrectly suggested that the man had been charged with sexual offending against children who were students at the theatre company, based on a public statement from the police that said “the majority of the victims are children” and “predominantly students”. This statement was incorrect. The Brisbane Times was not aware of the errors in the police’s statement.
The Brisbane Times wishes to clarify that the sexual offence charges facing the 35-year-old man related to a complaint by a person in their 30s, and all of those charges have since been dropped.
The Brisbane Times sincerely regrets the error, and apologises for any hurt and embarrassment caused by the publication of the articles.
