Clash between Alvise Pérez and Irene Montero in the European Parliament: “Dear Irene, no… deputy”

Spanish MEPs Alvise Perezfrom The Party’s Over, and Irene Monterofrom Podemos, had a clash this Wednesday at the parliamentary headquarters. “I am a deputy, not a dear,” Montero told Alvise, after he addressed her with a question about birth rates, abortions and viewing in Spain with the nickname “Dear Irene.”

Specifically, Alvise told him after the “dear Irene” that in Spain “100,000 infants are aborted a year” and asked him if he considers “that we kill more women, those of us who defend life or those who legislate to free those who murder and rape them.”

“Take the machismo out of your face,” the Podemos parliamentarian snapped at her, after reminding her not to call her “dear” Irene.

The former Minister of Equality has responded to her question by saying that the first thing that is needed to encourage births is for people to have housing“and not give away the homes of European men and women to investment funds.”

“If we want families in Europe to have children, we need to guarantee decent wages, public services and we need to kick out racists like you that are violating the fundamental rights of people who migrate”.

“We need to advance in social rights, feminist rights and anti-racist policies. Just the opposite of what you represent.”
