CULIACAN, Sin.- The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena)confirmed the death of 19 people after the confrontation that took place on Tuesday between the military and 30 hitmen over the arrest of Edwin Antonio Rubio López, alias “El Max” or “El Oso”.
The confrontation occurred during the night of Monday the 21st and early morning of this Tuesday, October 22 in the rural community of Eastern Planbetter known as Ejido El 12, which is located 11 kilometers east of Culiacanon the side of the local road that leads to the Sanalona syndicate.
The Mexican Army detailed in a statement that Rubio López is identified as the head of a criminal cell belonging to the faction of Ismael Zambada “Hitmen”El Mayito Flaco” that faces the group of Los Chapitos (children of Joaquin Chapo Guzman)
“El Max” has actively participated in the acts of violence recorded in Culiacán and surrounding municipalities, since September 9, when the conflagration began between Los Chapitos and La Mayiza
Sedena also reported that 4 machine guns, 17 long weapons, 5 short weapons, 1 Barret rifle, 18 tactical vests, 9 ballistic helmets, 7 vehicles, multiple cartridges of different calibers and a building were seized.
Both the detainee and the insured were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office to determine their legal situation and continue with the respective expert investigations.

Military intelligence points to Edwin Antonio Rubio López as one of the priority objectives in Mexico due to his active participation in organized crime and drug trafficking to the United States. He is the leader of a criminal cell and had an arrest warrant since 2019.
Rubio López is singled out for drug trafficking from Culiacán to San Felipe, to then transfer to the city of Los Angeles, United States.
