At least one person has died and several others have been injured in an attack on a military aircraft factoryowned by the Turkish state, on the outskirts of Ankara. The Government has considered it a “terrorist attack” on the facilities of the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) company.
This was indicated by the Minister of the Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, in a message on the social network explosions and shootings at the entrance to the factory of the TUSAŞ company, which manufactures military aircraft, helicopters and military aeronautical equipment.
“A terrorist attack has been carried out against the TUSAŞ facilities in Kahramankazan (district) in Ankara. The attack left one dead and one injured“, wrote the minister. A large number of police, as well as firefighters and ambulances, have gone to the scene and, according to the NTV radio station, the shooting continues inside the factory.
This media indicates that the factory workers are heading to shelters and there is talk of the possibility that some have been taken hostage. The CNNTürk network assures that The attackers arrived in a taxi at the factory and that at least one blew himself up at the door while others managed to access the premises. The authorities have sent special units by helicopter to the site, the aforementioned media say.
TUSAŞ develops and manufactures some of the most prestigious military aircraft of the Turkish weapons program, such as the Kaan fighter-bomber, still in the pipeline, the Hürjet training aircraft or the Hürkus light aircraft.
