One Direction fans ‘honour’ Liam Payne’s life with sweet tattoo tributes after the singer’s death in Argentina

Fans of One Direction have paid a sweet tribute to Liam Payne following his death, rushing to get matching tattoos because the time ‘feels right’.

The 32-year-old singer fell from a third floor balcony at the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday, prompting heartbroken tributes from thousands of fans.

Some have opted to pay a permanent tribute to the One Direction star’s life with a tattoo of five arrows – which matches one Liam had on his own arm.   

The five arrows represent the five members of One Direction, while Liam had a tattoo of four arrows on the back of his arm. This design was thought to represent the four other members of the band.

The tattoo has been popular with One Direction fans for a decade, but TikTok users have been sharing a new take on the design – with the addition of angel wings.

These wings appear to be sketched beneath the arrow representing Liam.

One fan, Chani, opted to get a colourful, fine line version of the arrows.

She said: ‘Finally took the step to get my One Direction tattoo, but in the saddest way possible—for Liam Payne. 

‘I always imagined it would be a happier moment, not under these circumstances. 

‘I would’ve chosen a different time, a different reason, but now feels right. 

‘I’m proud I pushed through the pain and cost to honour Liam in this way. These tattoos will help me process my grief and keep his memory close.’

It comes as the singer’s heartbroken sister today vowed to ‘take care’ of the One Direction star’s son Bear in an emotional tribute following his death. 

In a heartbreaking post on Instagram, the singer’s older sister Ruth revealed she is ‘struggling’ to cope with the loss of her ‘best friend’, who died on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old shared several previously unseen pictures of Liam, who she thanked for ‘changing my life’ and for ‘being the best brother and friend I’ll ever have’. 

Ruth ended the moving tribute by saying ‘I’m sorry I couldn’t save you’, adding ‘I’d drive to the end of the universe to bring you back’. 

Ruth is one of two older sisters to Liam, making him the youngest of three siblings in the tight-knit family, who on Thursday said they were ‘heartbroken’ by his death.
