Police officer to face Brisbane court over alleged child abuse offences

A Queensland police officer has been charged with child exploitation offences and suspended from the service.

The male constable, 20, was charged in Brisbane and is accused of using a carriage service to access child abuse material and also using the service to transmit, make available or promote child abuse material.

Several officers have been charged in recent months for a range of offences, including assault occasioning bodily.

In a statement, the Queensland Police Service said the constable, from the Southern region police district, had been stood down. The Southern district stretches as far east as Goodna and Springfield, south-west of Brisbane.

Police did not say if he was suspended with pay, or when he allegedly committed the offences.

In recent months, several officers have been charged with a range of offences, including assault occasioning bodily harm, misuse of a restricted computer, drink-driving and fraud.

Earlier this year, a 50-year-old former senior sergeant was also charged with child exploitation offences, relating to incidents while off-duty.

The constable was scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on November 21.
