The second vice president and minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Diazhas reproached the insults that a group of young people uttered this Thursday to the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaskaand has assured that he does not represent the country. “The Spain that calls Marlaska a faggot does not represent us”was transferred during the inauguration of the Congress of the State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Trans, Bisexuals, Intersexuals and more (FELGTBI+).
“Spain is not how they want us to see, that Spain that yesterday called a minister a faggot, that Spain that does not represent what we are, even if it wants to appropriate it. That Spain that they try to make us see is too small and there is room for too few people,” said Díaz during his speech at the 10th FELGTBI+ Congress, which is held under the title ‘Let’s transform society, let’s build a future of Equality’.
For the vice president, there is two fights that the extreme right has “taken as their flag.” “One of them is the rights of women, feminism and LGTBI+ people and the other is unionism. And they do it simply because they know very well the power of these two movements,” she stated.
“We have to eradicate discrimination and harassment in all places,” he added. Already this Thursday, Díaz condemned the insults to Minister Marlaska and considered what happened “very serious.” “Homophobia will not stop us and will always find us united. I hope that an investigation will be opened soon to clarify what happened,” he wrote on social networks.
On the other hand, during his speech Díaz committed to launching support plans for trans people in companies and to continue advancing to expand the rights of the group. “I know very well that there is still a lot to do and I will never settle. The LGTBI+ movements have asked us for plans to support trans people in companies and we are going to do it. I say few things, but what I say I do,” The minister has stated that she has been applauded for this commitment.
Furthermore, the person responsible for Labor has defended the importance of companies regulating equal treatment and discrimination clausesattention to access to employment and raising awareness among the workforce so that they accommodate the rights of LGTBI people, among other measures.
“I believe that as a country we are an authentic engine of modernity and your struggle makes us better,” Díaz has asserted.
