Moment Prince Harry launches into the waves to show off impressive surfing skills at California surf ranch four years after Meghan bought him lessons

Incredible footage has appeared online of Prince Harry showing off his surfing skills in California.

The Royal can be seen expertly navigating the big waves at surfing superstar Kelly Slater’s ‘Surf Ranch’ in Leemore, central California, over 100 miles from the ocean.

In the video posted to professional surfer Raimana Van Bastolaer’s Instagram account, Harry is seen taming ‘the wave’.

Captioning the post, Van Bastolaer, who is famous amongst the surfing community for his big wave surfing exploits in Tahiti, said; ‘In Tahiti, we still call you Prince Harry. But at Surf Ranch, it’s my brother. It was an honour to have you surf with me and Kelly Slater’.

Beginning by riding alongside Van Bastolaer’s jet ski, Harry pulls away as the wave begins to appear, before expertly leaping atop of his board.

The Duke of Sussex then finds his balance, and under the instruction of Van Bastolaer, adeptly negotiates the surging wave for almost one minute.

The wave is the central feature of Slater’s surf ranch and is a man-made, first of its kind, 6-ft barreling wave that lasts for up to 2300 feet.

Dubbed the best artificial wave in the world, it is still the only one to receive World Surf League accreditation, meaning it is fit to stage elite level competitions.

Since leaving the United Kingdom four years ago, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have been residing in the picturesque environs of Montecito, California.

It was reported at the time of their arrival in the coastal town, which is situated about 90 minutes north of Los Angeles, that Meghan bought Harry surf lessons for his 36th birthday.

Also regularly seen cycling along Malibu’s famous Surfrider Beach, it is clear that Harry has put those lessons to good use.

During his time Stateside, Harry has also seemingly stricken up friendships with surfing royalty such as 11-time World Champion Slater and Van Bastolaer, with the group pictured together at last year’s Formula 1 Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.

This blossoming friendship with Slater may come as somewhat of a surprise though, after the surfing phenom openly criticised Harry and Meghan on social media in the wake of their explosive 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Although, it appears Harry has been able to look past this, with his surfing skills certainly impressing under the tutelage of Slater and Van Bastolaer.
