The prosecutor of the trial of Samuel Luiz has described as “brutal and inhuman hunt” the death of the young manwhich occurred in the early morning of July 3, 2021 after a beating outside a leisure venue in A Coruña. “By a group of people who were aware,” he said in his presentation before the Jury Court in the Provincial Court of A Coruña and when arguing that the accused, in his opinion, were aware that they could cause his death.
Furthermore, he has maintained that Diego Montaña, the main accused, showed “animosity” and “rejection” regarding Samuel’s sexual orientationwhich is why both he and his girlfriend at the time and also accused, Catherine Silva, are asked to aggravate discrimination based on sexual orientation.
The Public Ministry requests, like the other accusations made – the family and the LGTBI group Alas Coruña – conviction for the crime of murder with treachery and cruelty for the five accused, all of them as co-authors, in the trial being held in the A Coruña Court.

“Starting today, justice will be done for Samuel Luiz,” said the prosecutor, María Olga Serrano, to emphasize that during the hearing “it is not necessary to prove the motive itself, but rather it is necessary to prove the intention to kill“.
In this regard, the prosecutor has explained that for murder to exist, it is enough that “the attack is by surprisethat the person is helpless or that suffering is increased in an inhumane way”.
Furthermore, he has insisted that “a multitude of people” participated in Samuel Luiz’s attack and has alluded to a “chase” along “more than 150 meters” which becomes a “brutal and inhumane hunt.” “I was totally helpless, Samuel’s death was foreseeable, known and accepted by all the accused“, he added about them.
Regarding the defense reports in relation to the consumption of alcohol and drugs of his clients, he has indicated that during the three years of investigation they have not been contributed to the cause.
