There are couples who begin their courtship and, shortly after, decide to celebrate their wedding. Others only take the step after many years of relationship. Then there is the case of Mar and Carlos. They had known each other all their lives, but it was not until 2016, after the world meeting of Catholic youth in Krakow with Pope Francis, when they really began to notice each other. And on August 31, eight years after that, they said ‘I do’ in the Cathedral of Albacete, where the bride surprised with an elegant tailored dress created by SanmartÃn Atelier.
A custom wedding dress
Mar, like many brides, rather than having a clear idea of what she was looking for for her big day, she knew what she didn’t want. That’s why, when she started looking for inspiration, she kept everything she identified with. “I realized that everyone followed the same style: airy silks, styles vintageoff-white dresses, simple, special sleeves and collars… “I had clear parts of the dress, like I wanted sleeves and a collar.”
Deciding on Jesús San MartÃn, creator of SanmartÃn Atelier, did not cost him much. They met the same summer she and Carlos got engaged. “He told me that the day I got married he would love to design my dress. I had already followed some creation processes that he did with other brides and I loved his style, the way his dresses were made, very important details such as the shape of making the seams, the fabrics I worked with… I had it clear from the first minute“, he assures.
After a first interview in which Marta told the designer her tastes, references, everything she loves and what she would never wear, Jesús presented her three sketches. But the one who showed him first was the one chosen. Then the first tests began. When a designer creates a custom dress from scratch, use a toilethat is, a fabric that will not be the definitive one to be able to play with different necklines, sleeves, collars… This way it is possible to try options without the risk of ruining the final fabric. Mar tells us that from those first moments she felt identified with design.
Following one of the trends most followed by brides, SanmartÃn Atelier created a convertible wedding dress. The base design, made of cold wool, was a simple, slightly fitted garment, with wide straps, a square neckline in the front and slightly rounded in the back. The skirt, with a modified A-line silhouette, was full of movement to give comfort to the bride.
To cover it and make it more typical of a religious wedding, they chose to create an overdress. “It’s something that I was clear about from the beginning because I wanted to be elegant and in keeping with the moment of the ceremony in the church.” This garment, with a marked vintage feel, was made of natural silk in an elegant off-white. But the most striking thing was the draping, which helped enhance the bride’s waist, the slightly raised neck and the slightly puffed sleeves culminating in a simple ruffle. Mar took him to the dance.
From jewelry to the bride’s bouquet
There are more and more fiancees who, as we said before, choose designs that evolve throughout the ceremony. When they change their dress they usually also change their accessories, which is why jewelry that also allows for an evolution is an interesting option. Mar tells us that she opted for some earrings by M de Paulet, specifically the model erainspired by the Belle Époque movement of the early 20th century. “As they were removable, they were the perfect combination for each look: with a hanging tear while I was wearing the overdress and when I revealed the base dress, I removed them and only wore the main piece of crystals,” she explains and adds that they were a gift from Mariola and Gonzalo, her witness and her fiancé.
Along with the second look, Mar also wore a choker from Swarovski. “It was a gift from my brother on his wedding day to my mother, as godmother, so I was very excited to be able to wear this piece with such a special story.”
But one of the most meaningful elements of her bridal look was the bouquet. Mar explains to us that she did not choose the chamomile, very small daisies, by chance. “My mother always told me that her bridal bouquet was made of wild daisies that she collected in the field the day before her wedding, and I was so fascinated by this story and that gesture of simplicity, that I was always clear that I would like a bouquet of field daisies in honor of her“.
Self-makeup and convertible hairstyle
Most brides trust a professional to carry out the your wedding makeupbut some decide to take the risk and be in charge of doing it themselves. “I decided to do my own makeup because I have always put on makeup at all events and, although I hesitated in case I got nervous that morning, it was a risk that I was also excited to take: putting on makeup like I have always done and also on my sister and my mother. “I did a simple look, highlighting my eyes and bringing a lot of light and juiciness to my face.” The hairstyle, a low ponytail with water waves that she let down for the dancewas the work of NoemÃ, the hairdresser whom he always trusts.
A very special ‘yes, I want’
On August 31, at half past twelve, Mar and Carlos said ‘I do’ in the Parish of San Juan Bautista, Albacete Cathedral. And it was precisely the bride’s entrance that left Mar and Carlos with one of those memories that last a lifetime. “We have always dreamed of the great moment of entering through the door of the Cathedral and seeing each other at each end of the hallway. When we talked about it we imagined ourselves in a slow-motion, dreamlike scene, as if the world stopped, and, although it was partly like that, the reality is that when I got to the altar and the ceremony began, at one point I asked Carlos: ‘Were you excited when you saw me enter?’ And he replied: ‘I didn’t see you,’. you were backlit and I have already seen you when I arrived here’. My joy in a well, we continue to remember it with many laughs.
He also tells us that for them it was very important that All the nephews, cousins and little brothers will accompany them like children of arras. who are part of their two large families. “When we talked about it with our families days before the wedding, we joked that it seemed like a royal wedding, and we had a cohort… We were well escorted! It was a lot of fun.”
To continue with the celebration they moved to the Los Aljibes Winery Estatein Chinchilla de Montearagón, a beautiful location surrounded by hectares of vineyards. “We chose to have the cocktail outdoors in a typical La Mancha patio, the food under a tent and the dancing outdoors, surrounded by vineyards. We do not hire wedding plannerour organization was clear and precise, especially thanks to Lydia Olivares, the event organizer of Finca Los Aljibes itself, who gave us answers to all our doubts, put us in contact with suppliers, set the delivery and shipping times for the items. things, when to do each task… It has been a wonderful experience to have been able to live it this way, everything tied up with threads and without pending issues in the pipeline,” says the bride.
From that day Mar is left with something truly special, which gives meaning to everything. “Be aware that, finally, our life together began and that all the people we love witnessed it and accompanied us to make it a reality.
