More than 300,000 people go to the polls on the first day of early voting in Georgia

More than 300,000 people have gone to the polls in the state of Georgia (southern United States), which began this Tuesday the early voting period which will allow them to vote until election day.

This number of voters – about 305,000 – is a record in the stateaccording to the electoral authorities. Gabriel Sterling, in charge of supervising the electoral process, has said that it is 123% more than the previous record.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has assured that “Georgia’s voting system has proven to be secure, efficient and accurate.”

“That’s why we’re in the top in electoral integrity and convenience for voters, despite years of lies from (state Democratic leader) Stacey Abrams, failed lawyers and ‘experts,'” he added.

Georgia has nearly 7 million registered voters, with a majority of white voters (51.6%).

The Georgia Legislature, controlled by republicanshas approved a series of laws in recent years that, according to Democrats, could make voting difficult.

Raffensperger, a Republican elected official, faced Trump’s attempts to interfere in the election result in 2020, thus earning the enmity of the former president and much of his party.
