The unlikely comedy duo of Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller in “My Stepfather and Me” should be back soon.

CINEMA – Fifteen years after its third and final part, My stepfather and I is about to return to the cinema. The comedy saga, created by screenwriters Jim Herzfeld and John Hamburg in 2000, dramatizes the strange dynamic between Robert DeNiro as Jack Byrnes, a former agent of the CIAand his son-in-law Greg Furniker, played by Ben Stiller.

A fourth film is currently in development, and the two actors are in discussions to reprise their roles. Terri Polo and Blythe Danner, who played their respective wives, are also in talks with Universal Pictures Studios, according to the specialized site Deadline.

A billion dollars at the global box office

No script has been confirmed yet, but John Hamburg, who wrote the first three scripts, is returning. On the production side, no name has yet been put forward for this new film from a franchise which has grossed more than a billion dollars at the worldwide box office.

Jay Roach, director of the three feature films Austin Powerswas in charge of the first two films, My stepfather and I (2000) and My stepfather, my parents and me (2004), while Paul Weitz (American Pie) had filmed the last part released in cinemas in 2010, My father-in-law and us.

It remains to be seen what classification the film will obtain. During a recent appearance on the show Hot OnesBen Stiller returned to the fact that the first opus had been not recommended for children under 13 in the United States by the Motion Picture Association (MPA). The latter thus considered that her character’s last name, Focker (Furniker in the French version), looked too much like… Fucker.
