The applauded attitude of King Felipe trying to calm the spirits of the outraged residents of Paiporta

We had never seen the Kings in a situation like this. Surrounded by a large number of angry people, tension has flared considerably during the visit of the authorities this Sunday to the town of Paiporta, considered the ‘ground zero’ of the DANA in Valencia.

Screams, insults and throwing objects and mud broke out during part of the route of the procession, which included Felipe VI and Mrs. Letizia accompanied by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazon.

Police and Civil Guard agents and the military have intervened quickly to protect them, but it was very complicated given the large number of people who had gathered there and were protesting vehemently. While the agents barely maintained the security cordon, the figure of the head of state has emerged.

The procession has definitively broken up, but Felipe VI has stayed in place and held on stoically to try to calm the spirits of the neighbors. The atmosphere at that time was unbreathable.

His escorts, who held black umbrellas over him to prevent him from suffering the impact of what was falling, advised him to leave the site. However, it was the monarch who made the decision to remain there.

An applauded attitude given the adverse circumstances that existed there, since we have even seen him converse as best he could and make reassuring gestures to some very nervous people who have placed themselves right in front of him. People, including several young people, who told him “that this could have been avoided and they didn’t warn us in time.”

During the altercations and in the face of so much desperation and tension, Queen Letizia stayed in another group and was seen saddened, with tears in her eyes, hugging some of those affected. At that moment, it almost seemed like a scene of war since both she and the monarch had mud stains on their faces and clothes.
