With an Italian father, the actress was born in Rome and at the age of ten she moved to Madrid with her mother, where she currently lives with her husband, the Basque architect Xabier Ortega, and their two little ones, Renata (4) and Lorenzo ( 3). Close, kind and sincere, we met her on an unusual sunny October day in Bilbaoone of her favorite cities, to which this time she has traveled for an event related to fashion.

He did so by presenting the campaign inside Fall/Winter 2024 and counting as a hostess with Miriam Giovanelli. “I’m excited because the first time I did a press conference in my life, I was wearing clothes from the brand,” he confesses. “I am very fond of it and I like it not only for its elegant and bohemian style, but also because it is good quality clothing that lasts, and I think that is one of the keys to sustainability: pieces that you can wear for years.”
© Oier ReyWe sat down with the performer to chat about her style choices, the new project she just filmed with Elsa Pataky or the special connection she has with this region of northern Spain, which is given by her husband’s San Sebastian origin: “I am a Basque spouse,” she admits with a laugh when thinking about the architect Xabier Ortegawith whom he just celebrated his seventh wedding anniversary.
FASHION: What basics would you choose to dress well all fall?
MIRIAM GIOVANELLI: I think three-piece suits are very versatile. If you don’t feel like wearing it completely, you can wear the pants with a nice knit sweater, the vest with jeans… I always look for very practical clothes that have a very long life.
How would you define your style?
I would tell you that classic, classic is always a trend. Above all, very comfortable, looks that you can wear from morning to night. I also tend quite a bit towards dark colors, clothes overseize and more masculine cut… And I didn’t do it before, but a long time ago I decided to prioritize comfort above all.

How do you choose looks for events or project presentations?
I rely a lot on stylist friends who I ask for opinions or who connect me with a brand. But I choose everything I wear. I also try to always wear Spanish brands, sometimes also from a young Italian designer because of my connection to the country.
We still remember the original bridal look you wore at your wedding. Would you opt for an unconventional option again if you got married again?
It’s funny because now we are more used to seeing those types of suits, but when I got married in 2017 it was not so common. MarÃa Escoté, one of my best friends, did it to me, and I always told her that I wanted to go the way I go in my life. It’s rare that you see me in a dress or a skirt, that’s why I decided to wear pants and a jacket. A classic outfit to which we added different touches, through sandals that I still use a lot today, and with a hat from Betto GarcÃa, who has also become an incredible friend.

Do you know what happens? That by being an actress you can be almost anything: one day a lawyer, another the owner of galleries, another police officer… How could I not want to be an actress, if when I was little I wanted to be everything? Now I can’t imagine myself in any other profession, although it is true that Archeology has always caught my attention.
You’ve been rolling Nuances together with Elsa Pataky, what can you tell us about this series?
It’s a thriller psychological that still does not have a release date, we have just finished filming and it has been a great project. Sergio Cánovas has been a discovery as a director. And I had never met Elsa Pataky, but we have connected a lot, we have all made a very cool group. Furthermore, I have met Maxi Iglesias again and it has been nice because we have seen each other grow professionally: we agree on Physics or Chemistry, Lies and fatin velvet and now here. I met Juana Acosta in a hallway velvetbut we had never filmed together until now. I also have pending release The Returna film that I shot in Argentina last year and with which I fell deeply in love with the country.

I have a lot of affection for Marta, Charon. We were all left wanting more and it was also the first time she played a character that was not a villain. I also have affection for Patricia Márquez from velvet because it is the character I have played for the longest time in my life. The one who posed a challenge was BellÃsima, Nachobecause it forced me to learn many things. Although also the one I do in Nuances: The series tells the story of six psychiatric patients and I had to prepare for the role by talking to a psychologist, a philosopher… My character has so many layers that it has allowed me to remember that we judge people without knowing what is behind it and to learn that we do not You always have to understand everything, sometimes understanding is enough.

I really like San Sebastián, my connection with this city is special because my husband and his family are from there. But when we go to San Sebastián we try to also stop by Bilbao, I love it! It is a city that has made a commitment to contemporary architecture with very important names. It has made a port and peripheral area a very active nucleus. With the Guggenheim they have also achieved a lot of positioning, it is a city that is very alive artistically. Many things are happening in Bilbao, it is not surprising that Hoss Intropia has opened a physical store here.
They say that being a mother changes your life in many ways, has this been the case in your case?
I really enjoy motherhood, I consider myself privileged because I have the opportunity to dedicate a lot of time to parenting and enjoy it. But it is hard and even more so if you have to combine it with work. Although I was clear that I wanted to have more than one child: I am an only child, my father died, and I think that facing the goodbyes of the people you love by having a brother is better. I would love to have more children, but the logistics make me wonder, it gets a little complicated.

Do you feel a certain media pressure when you choose a look for a red carpet?
It doesn’t affect me at all. It would seem surreal to me if someone cared about what I wore and criticized it. It is also true that mine is a very discreet fame, I have never experienced that pressure of being on everyone’s lips for what I wear. But the tension that exists on social networks does scare me. I don’t use mine to criticize people, but reading those comments connects you with a certain violence, with a gray energy.
We have seen you at Fashion Week Madrid, any Spanish designer that you especially like?
I love MarÃa Escoté and I really like Juan Vidal. Also Hoss Intropia’s commitment, how they have been able to maintain their DNA, but create new romantic versions of very timeless pieces.
