Samuel exited the game with zero catches and zero receptions.

Entering the game, Samuel was San Francisco’s third-leading receiver, having hauled in 20 receptions for 335 yards and one touchdown.

The 28-year-old came down with an illness during pregame drills but decided to give it a go for this crucial matchup. Earlier in the game, Samuel was seen on the sideline wearing an oxygen mask and consulting with a doctor.

Samuel jogged into the locker room with a little over three minutes left in the first half.

FOX Sports Tom Rinaldi shared in previous reports what Samuel was dealing with. He also added that the receiver was on the sideline consulting with team doctors during the 49ers’ defensive series and that the team added a fan behind him.

The 49ers were already a depleted bunch when it came to their wide receiver core. San Francisco is already without Jauan Jennings, who has a hip injury, and Brandon Aiyuk, who suffered a severe right knee injury in the second quarter of this Chiefs game.

Leading up to Week 7, Samuel operated with a cap on his reps this past week due to a wrist injury.

In a possible seven games played this season, Samuel has played in six. In the season, he has recorded 20 receptions for 335 yards, one touchdown, and averaged 16.8 yards per reception.

For the last six seasons, Samuel has been vital to the 49ers’ brand of football. He is a tough and physical wide receiver who can explode for a huge run anytime he has the ball in his hands.

He complements Kyle Shanhans’s play calling to a tee, and he’s a massive reason why the 49ers have been successful since he was drafted by the team in 2019.

The South Carolina native has established himself as one of the best players in the NFL. He was phenomenal for the 49ers in the 2021 season when he was named First-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowler.

It’s safe to say that this illness is not long-term, and he should be ready to go next week for their marquee match against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.
