4 things to think about if your child has seasonal allergies

With the gradual awakening of spring comes spring allergies, which are very strong even in children. Does your child have a cold, sneeze and itchy eyes? It may be a seasonal allergy, also known as allergic rhinitis or hay fever. In all cases, however, you do not always need to take medication directly from an allergist. You can also avoid spring allergy symptoms thanks to home tricks and remedies.

Allergies can make spring really unpleasant. Some of its symptoms can be treated with prevention and folk remedies.

An allergy occurs when the immune system overreacts to a certain trigger in nature, such as weed, grass, or tree pollen. As a result, the body creates antibodies that are released into the bloodstream to defend against foreign substances. This then triggers an inflammatory response that causes common allergy symptoms. These may include sneezing, sore throat, runny nose, itchy eyes or cough.

Medicines such as antihistamines and steroid nasal sprays can provide relief for children, but some natural DIYs are definitely worth a try (DIY – shortened term from “Do it yourself”, in Czech “Do it yourself” – a concept when you do it yourself, i.e. without professional support, he will make a useful product that serves him or other people; note ed.) methods.

Manifestations of pollen allergy

Pollen grains flying through the air in spring can cause a lot of unwanted reactions. According to article on the website of the pharmacy Dr. Max These include:

  • allergic rhinitis also referred to as hay fever – this is the most common manifestation of pollen allergy
  • allergic conjunctivitis – eyes are red, burning, itchy and watery, eyelids are swollen
  • itching in the ears, burning in the throat – symptoms like a cold
  • breathing difficulties, asthma – wheezing on the bronchi, difficulty breathing, thick mucus production and coughing
  • allergic skin rash – itching, eczema
  • fatigue, drowsiness
  • headache

Avoid triggers

Many doctors recommend that if your children are prone to seasonal allergies, try to avoid all allergens as much as possible. “For example, you can monitor the current information about the amount of pollen in the area where you are and limit your outdoor time accordingly,” advises the specialized website Parents.

No more corticoids. Allergies can be treated by treating white blood cells in an incubator

You can also protect your home from allergy triggers. Keep windows closed, especially when warm, dry weather promotes windblown pollen.

“If you have air conditioning, remember to put a clean filter in the air conditioning system at the beginning of the season and change it every two to three months,” advises the Parents website.

Children and seasonal allergies – 4 tips that will help

Professional website Harvard Health Publishing compiled a list of four things you shouldn’t forget if you have a child with allergies.

  1. If you have a child who suffers strongly from spring ailments associated with allergies, definitely “close the windows” – although it is tempting to ventilate very often after winter, fresh air also brings pollen. If you have air conditioning, treat yourself to it too.
  2. An allergy sufferer should definitely change his clothes and wash his hands and face after coming home. But it is not out of the question that all members of the household do the same, because they too can be carriers of pollen.
  3. Consider when you send a child with allergies out for a little run. Dry and windy days can be particularly damaging in this case. Many weather websites and apps also list the pollen situation in your area.
  4. If the allergy is so strong that the child has to take medication, try to get him to take it correctly and regularly. In general, people tend to skip medication when they don’t have any symptoms.

A natural remedy for skin symptoms of allergies

Some “folk” remedies can greatly relieve your child when he experiences skin problems caused by an allergic reaction.

In the treatment of dermatitis (common term for all skin inflammations, note ed.) you can wash the irritated area with warm water and mild soap. You can then use aloe vera gel or calendula cream. However, some people may be sensitive to the ingredients of these products. If your baby’s skin is dry, a fragrance-free moisturizer or ointment may help.

“To relieve hives, apply a cool, damp cloth to the affected area. Adding baking soda or oatmeal to the bath water while your child is bathing can also have a soothing effect,” reports the specialist website Healthlinedealing with health.
