Hello and welcome to ESPN’s live coverage of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
The ninth day of the CWG can well see India’s medal tally expand substantially. Wrestling action continues and after all six wrestlers won medals on the sport’s opening day. Saturday will see the likes of Vinesh Phogat and Ravi Dahiya in action, both of whom are expected to add to gold tally. Like Friday, all rounds will take place on the same day, starting from 3 PM IST.
Another shot at a gold medal will be the new favourite sport of most Indians – Lawn Bowls. Just like the women, the men’s team has also reached the final of the Fours event with a stunning fightback in the semifinals. They will play Northern Ireland in the gold medal match.
India will also play semi-finals in boxing, cricket, men’s hockey, squash and table tennis which can assure a spate of medals for India on Saturday. Veterans such as Sharath Kamal, Deepika Pallikal Karthik, Saurav Ghosal, can all seal more CWG medals with a win. Badminton will see the first real test for Indians as the quarterfinals begin and they play fellow seeds.
As always, we will have our correspondent Anirudh Menon in Birmingham, bringing us the sights and sounds of the Games. Follow along!
