Interior designer from Mull to judge BBC’s Scotland’s Home of the Year

AN interior designer from the Isle of Mull will be joining BBC Scotland’s Home of the Year as a guest judge.

Banjo Beale, originally from Australia, won BBC One’s Interior Design Masters earlier this year and will host the show alongside Anna Campbell-Jones and Michael Angus.

The seven-part series will see the trio travel around Scotland to find the country’s best house as they showcase a variety of homes such as luxurious properties, conversions, traditional homes, modern houses, city dwellings and rural offerings.

Beale said: “I have opinions and I ain’t afraid to use them! I can’t wait to uncover the spaces and the people behind them.

“I’m an Australian living on the Isle of Mull and Scotland has been my home for eight years.

“I think as a nation we’re seriously underestimated for our design, heart and bravery which we show in our houses, and I’m chuffed to showcase the best of the best.”

Beale first moved to Scotland after travelling the world and falling in love with the country, leading him to settle in Tobermory in 2014 with his partner Ro.

He is replacing regular judge and lifestyle blogger Kate Spiers for the duration of this series as she takes a break from filming due to pregnancy.

Judge Campbell-Jones said: “I watched Interior Design Masters avidly and knew from the start that Banjo would win.

“His design instinct is spot on and this, with the humour and humanity he showed, makes him an absolutely brilliant addition to the family.

“I know we will have lots of fun working together and that viewers will be equally entertained.”

The upcoming third series of Scotland’s Home of the Year will start filming next week and will be broadcast in 2023.

Launched in 2019, the programme is one of BBC Scotland’s most popular shows with 266,000 viewers on BBC iPlayer.
