The country is in a state of heat with the mercury hitting “red”, the temperature exceeding 42 degrees and the weather testing us.
Furnace-like areas were numerous throughout the country with Thessaly and Eastern Central Greece being the hottest.
According to the network of automatic meteorological stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, the dam of 40 degrees Celsius was exceeded in 18 stations with the highest temperature being recorded in Lefkochori, Fthiotida (42.1 degrees Celsius).
The map below shows the maximum temperature in the whole country as well as its exact value in the “warmest” stations of selected areas.
It should be noted that in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace the temperature was much lower than in the rest of the country due to the colder gas masses, clouds and strong local phenomena in these areas.
