2022 World Swimming Championships: results, finals… The program

2022 World Swimming Championships: results, finals… The program

SWIMMING. After another incredible day at the world swimming championships with three new medals, the French team is back in the pools on June 23.

We had left a morose French team after the Tokyo Olympics with the only silver medal of Florent Manaudou 50m freestyle. Three days before the end of the World Swimming Championships in Budapest, French swimmers have an incredible record of 5 medals, including 2 gold. Gold, Leon Marchand actually a nice collection. After his title in the 400m medley, the Toulousain signed a resounding double by winning the 200m medley on Wednesday June 22. “It’s excellent, I don’t really know what to say, I don’t realize yet,” explained Léon Marchand. “I had less pressure because I was already world champion so in this race it was more fun and I think when I think like that it works so it’s pretty cool! Plus this race was great, I saw everyone come back at the end so it was super hard but I held on. It’s my father’s race. He was vice-world champion in 1998, I’m world champion in 2022, I beat it this time, it’s cool”.

Beyond this title, the French also dreamed of this June 22 with Maxime Grousset’s silver medal in the 100m freestyle, beaten by 6 hundredths by the incredible Romanian Popovici. Between the two, it is the young Analia Pigree who takes the bronze medal in the 50m backstroke. “Do 3e it’s exceptional, I’m very happy and very proud of myself. I was very excited all day since this morning. I usually take a 1h30 nap today I did 20 minutes, I couldn’t sleep because of the excitement. Lots of emotions tonight. This medal represents the beginning of my career. I hope my parents are proud of me because they sacrificed so much for me. I did not expect this third place because it was swimming very fast next to me. I’m very proud of myself.”
