He democratic candidate to the American vice presidency, Tim Walzhas found himself in the spotlight for having stated in his Tuesday debate against Republican JD Vance that he is “friend of school shooters.”
“I am a hunter, I have firearms and the vice president too. We understand the Second Amendment is there, but our first responsibility is to solve this for our children. I have sat with some parents of the Sandy Hook School and I have made friends with school shooters“said the number two of Kamala Harris when asked about his stance on guns.
In the Sandy Hook school massacrewhich happened on December 14, 2012, a 20-year-old man with mental problems shot his mother while she was sleeping and, later, went to his old school and killed 20 children and six teachers.
Vance, his direct rival in the November 5 elections, took advantage of a rally this Wednesday to join the criticism who received that comment. “He’s said twice that he’s friends with school shooters and that was probably just the third or fourth dumbest comment he made. I have to be honest, I feel a little bad for Governor Walz and the reason is that he has to defend the indefensiblethe balance of Kamala Harris,” he noted in Auburn Hills, in the key state of Michigan.
The Republican campaign has gone further. “What the hell was Governor Walz talking about? What exactly did he mean? If he was wrong, he had ample opportunity to offer clarification during his pizza stop after his humiliating performance (in the debate). Only he didn’t do it,” he said in a statement.
Walz’s explanation came this Wednesday before an electoral event in Harrisburg (Pennsylvania), where he maintained that in that failed statement he really meant who had befriended victims of school shooters.
