AEW Collision Results

  • Gold League: Will Ospreay over Juice Robinson via Hidden Blade in 12:34
  • Private Party & Místico over MxM Collection & Johnny TV via Gin & Juice in 8:15
  • Blue League: Kyle Fletcher over The Beast Mortos via Sheer Drop Brainbuster in 9:52

Continental Classic Gold League Match

Collision kicked off with Will Ospreay taking on Juice Robinson in each of their first match in the Gold League of the Continental Classic. Tony Schiavone brought up how not long ago, Juice Robinson pinned Will Ospreay in New Japan to win their United States title. Robinson spent the early portion of the match attempting to keep Ospreay grounded as Ospreay continued to sell the effects of his loss to Kyle Fletcher at Full Gear. 

Finally, Ospreay began to recover and mount a comeback on Robinson. Juice had a crazy mark on his pec from chops from Ospreay as fans could be heard chanting “Let’s go Juice”. Ospreay hit a Styles Clash for a near fall and then picked up the win after hitting Robinson with the Hidden Blade. 

 

Mariah May Loves Mina Shirakawa

Mariah May was shown in the same area where she attacked Mina Shirakawa on Dynamite and said that she didn’t “break up” with Mina and they’re closer than ever. May said she was giving Mina a title shot and that she can cry, scream, or bleed but she can never say she didn’t love her.

Místico Returns

The next match on the card was MxM Collection and Johnny TV taking on Private Party and Mīstico from CMLL. Tony Schiavone noted that there would be a special “Lucha Libre” edition of Rampage after Collision, but there was never any explanation as to why Místico was teaming with Private Party. This match was essentially a showcase for Private Party after their title win at Full Gear with Místico inexplicably there as well. 

The finish saw Místico hitting MxM Collection with a splash off the top to the outside while Private Party hit Gin & Juice on Johnny TV for the victory.

Anna Jay Eyes Another Title

Lexi Nair interviewed Anna Jay and noted that she cannot challenge Mariah May again for the AEW Women’s Championship. Jay responded by saying that she has nothing to lose, there are other titles and she doesn’t mind swinging big.

Continental Classic Blue League Match #1

Next up was Kyle Fletcher taking on The Beast Mortos in the Blue League of the Continental Classic. One quirk of a tournament like this is these matches where it’s heel versus heel but the crowd did seem to get behind Beast Mortos, even chanting “Beast” at one point. 

As the match went on, Beast Mortos was getting bigger and bigger crowd reactions. Yet, looking at the crowd it seemed as if they were sitting on their hands so there may have been some audio sweetening going on here. Not that Mortos didn’t impress, which he certainly did. 

Kyle Fletcher won in the end with a Sheer Drop Brainbuster. That puts Kyle Fletcher and Shelton Benjamin atop the Blue League. Those two will square off this coming Wednesday on Dynamite. 

 

Respect the Plan

Lexi Nair tried to interview Kyle O’Reilly in the back but Matt Taven and Mike Bennett were arguing with him and brought up how Kyle turned them down when they asked him to join the Undisputed Kingdom. Taven asked O’Reilly to let them finish MJF themselves. O’Reilly simply responded that he respected their plan.

Callis & Takeshita

Highlights were shown from Konosuke Takeshita’s win over Ricochet at Full Gear. Backstage, Don Callis and Takeshita said they were headed to the Tokyo Dome and then they were coming back and 2025 would be the year of the Don Callis Family and the year of Takeshita. Takeshita added, “This title – come and take it”. 

Battle of the Gimmicks

Next up was The Outrunners taking on Iron Savages. The story of this match was The Outrunners trying to bodyslam the 339 lbs. Boulder. This was over quickly as The Outrunners hit the Total Recall for the win. Nigel wondered aloud how many stars the match would get. After the match, FTR came out and did the Predator handshake with The Outrunners. 

 

Max Caster, Leader

Lexi Nair interviewed Max Caster in the back and Caster said Swerve has been acting crazy and challenged Swerve to a match on Dynamite. Lexi asked where Anthony Bowens and Billy Gunn were and Caster said as the leader of The Acclaimed, he told them to take the week off. 

 

Hangman vs. Yuta

The next match was Hangman Adam Page taking on the Death Riders’ Wheeler Yuta who was out to the ring without the accompaniment of the rest of the Death Riders. 

Wheeler Yuta tried to focus on Hangman’s injured leg but had trouble against an aggressive Adam Page.

After a long back-and-forth, Claudio Castagnoli and PAC appeared in the crowd and shortly thereafter Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir appeared as well. Hangman attempted the Buckshot Lariat but his left leg buckled and Yuta nearly got the pinfall with a Seatbelt. Hangman survived and hit the Deadeye for the win. After the match, Page started beating down Yuta trying to goad the other Death Riders to the ring. Page even put a chair around Yuta’s neck but they wouldn’t budge.

Jay White then appeared with a chair and hit Yuta with the Blade Runner and still the Death Riders didn’t move. Ultimately, they just left with Yuta lifeless in the ring. Later backstage, Leix Nair caught up with Page and he wouldn’t give an interview. Christopher Daniels appeared and told Page to let go of what happened in the past. Page said he knows who he is and he doesn’t need advice from “an old man” like Daniels. 

Thunder Rosa Eyes the World Title

Backstage, Thunder Rosa promoted “Lucha Libre” Rampage where she’ll take on HarleyGram. She also noted that she’d be watching Mariah May and Mina Shirakawa closely as she never lost her World Title. 

Mina vs. Leila

Next up was Mina Shirakawa (who didn’t seem to be affected by the bottle attack by Mariah May this past Wednesday) taking on Top Flight’s Leila Grey. Grey continues to improve and here in this match, she held her own with Shirakawa. Ultimately, Shirakawa picked up the win with the Glamorous Driver. 

Willow Returns to Collision

Willow Nightingale was interviewed and said that it feels right that she would represent AEW in the International Women’s Cup. She was disappointed that Orange Cassidy and Tomohiro Ishii didn’t win titles but it was up to her to pull this off. 

Continental Classic Blue League Match #2

The main event of Collision was TNT Champion Daniel Garcia taking on current Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada. 

Okada being the clever heel that he is at one point feigned a shoulder injury and then hit Garcia with a chair after the referee was distracted. 

Matt Menard was on commentary for this match. He discussed how Garcia only earned points in his final match of the tournament last year and noted how far he’s come since then. Okada mocked Garcia’s dance, giving him the finger, and the momentary loss of focus allowed Garcia to apply an ankle lock. Okada then went for the Rainmaker but Garcia reversed it into the Sharpshooter.

Suddenly, Arkady Aura announced there was one minute left in the match as Okada attempted to survive the Sharpshooter as Garcia reared back. The time limit expired and the match was announced as a draw with both men getting one point. After the match, Okada went to shake Garcia’s hand but gave him the finger instead.

 

Final Thoughts

Collision is always a better show when it’s live and as this show was taped along with Dynamite this past Wednesday, the crowd certainly was affected negatively. It felt like a consequential episode with storylines all moving forward. The Continental Classic gives greater stakes to any show. 

Side note: Perhaps this is a controversial opinion but Tony Schiavone doesn’t work as the play-by-play man in the announce booth. Maybe it’s just in comparison to Excalibur but he feels so unnatural the way he does it.
