Constantine of Greece, the closest thing to a ‘prince charming’ of the 21st century: attractive, adventurous and ‘influencer’

to the prince Constantine Alexios, second son of Paul and Marie-Chantal of Greecefour photographs shared on Instagram are enough to have one hundred and sixty-six thousand followers and be considered influencer almost without wanting it. And the young prince has all the cards to succeed: youth (he has just turned twenty-six), intelligence (he studied International Relations at the prestigious Georgetown University, the same one where his godfather, Felipe VI, studied), style (inherited largely from his mother) and history, linked to the particular destiny of his family: since 1974 a Royal House without a Throne, but with dignity intact.

With the death of his beloved grandfatherKing Constantine, in January last year, Prince Constantine Alexios became an uncrowned heir. His father, Paul of Greece and Denmark, assumed the title of new head of the Greek Royal House. They both have a strong understanding that it is one thing to have the title of King and quite another to be King. Despite belonging to a Royal Family without a throne, they maintain the destiny of their dynasty by working at the service of their country, from where they are politically allowed. Paul of Greece already announced during his father’s solemn funeral that his mission revolves around his beloved country, but that he, his wife and their five children (Olympia, Constantine, Achilles, Odysseus and Aristides) will continue living between London and New York, without taking his eyes off Greece, the country of which his father was the last King.

There are many factors that make Constantine Alexios of Greece a true Prince Charming of the 21st century. From his parents, he has inherited physical attractiveness and savoir-faire. We cannot forget that his mother, Marie-Chantal Miller, was born in London, into a very rich family. Her father, the American billionaire Robert Warren Miller, founder of the DFS luxury stores, and her mother, the Ecuadorian Chantal Pesantes Becerra, had three daughters and all of them touched by the magic wand of style: Marie-Chantal, princess of Greece, Alejandra von Fürstenberg and Pia Getty, known by the press as The Miller Sisters, synonymous with distinction and innate sense of fashion.

Like his grandfather, Queen Sofía’s great-nephew is also called Tino in private. He was born on October 29, 1996 in New York. Despite being the second son of the family, he will inherit the leadership of the Greek Royal House and not his older sister, Olympia, to follow the tradition of the Salic Law, the one by which the preference of the ruler governs the line of succession. man over woman. The forced exile of the Greek Royal Family in 1967 and the definitive dismissal of Constantine as King, in 1974, prevented a modernization of the monarchical institution and the repeal of the Salic Law by which it, to this day, remains in force.

It is very curious to observe how Constantine Alexios (who if he ever reigned would do so as Constantine III) is considered by the national and international press as influencer when he has only shared four photographs; Despite this discretion, which has allowed him to feel freer to move between two continents throughout his life, his life arouses great interest that is especially evident in knowing the ins and outs of his love life. He guards it jealously, but cannot prevent it from transcending.

This prince charming of the 21st century had a brief courtship with Poppy Delevingne, twelve years older than him. It was seen and not seen: they were photographed together for the first time in February 2023, they made their courtship official a month later, but half a year later rumors of a breakup were loud and were soon confirmed. The end of the relationship became visible when in May 2024, Poppy Delevingne was photographed kissing Sienna Miller’s “ex”, Archis Keswick; and a month later, Constantino Alexios attended the wedding of Miss Universe 2012, Olivia Culpo, arm in arm with the model Brooks Nadera model and influencera year older than the prince, who has more than a million followers on his social networks.

Although, as we have already mentioned, the prince has studied International Relations at Georgetown (by the way, following in his father’s footsteps, Prince Paul has this same academic training), he feels a weakness for the bohemian life that is manifested in his passion for sports, especially water sports; for music (apparently he plays the piano and guitar), photography and a long list of artistic interests.

On the day he turned twenty-six, he received countless congratulations, among which those from his father, Prince Paul, and one of his brothers, Prince Achilles, stood out, who uploaded a photograph of both of them, in black and white, with a message full of affection: “Happy birthday to my brother and best friend. I will love you forever!”

Prince Constantine Alexios manages to maintain the difficult balance between responsibly fulfilling his destiny – as heir to a Royal House, even if it is a non-reigning one – and preserving his interests and privacy. It’s not easy for someone who has been in the news since his birth in New York. As a testament to his position in the Monarchy – we cannot forget that he is also a member of Danish royalty through his grandmother, Queen Anne Mary – at his baptism, held on April 15, 1999 in the Saint Sophia Cathedral, from London, Queen Elizabeth II of England attended and her godparents were Philip VI of Spain, Frederick of Denmark, Victoria of Sweden, William of England, Nicholas of Greece, Demetrius of Yugoslavia and his maternal aunt, Alexandra von Fürstenberg.

Beyond the difficult political situation of the Greek Royal House, it has managed to remain firm and united in the face of the adversities of history. Constantine of Greece won the affection of all European royalty. He stoically resisted what he had to live through. The last King of the Hellenes was with his family in exile for forty-six eternal years. He was King without a Crown, but protected by the great reigning houses, such as the Windsors. Far from his beloved Greece, and lovingly cared for by his aunt, Queen Elizabeth II, Constantine and Anne Mary of Greece made Britain their new home. They also had the love and support in the worst moments of the Danish Royal Family and the Spanish Royal Family, among others.

One of the tasks that Constantine II undertook most ardently was to achieve that great family atmosphere among the Royal Houses beyond the historical circumstances that they had to live through. The abolition of the Monarchy in Greece did not prevent him from continuing to love and care for his country from a distance and, like Ulysses returning home after a thousand journeys away from his land, from returning with a full heart to Athens. He announced this with his wife in 2004, although the return did not become effective until 2013. “It is wonderful to be able to return home,” he said then. Because he always ensured that his children and grandchildren, away from the country of their ancestors, continued to love him despite the hardships. When he died, at the age of eighty-two, his remains were able to rest in the cemetery of the Tatoi palace, next to his parents.

He left a legacy which, without a doubt, has been inherited by his grandson Constantine, named in his honour. It is worth remembering that, at the 1960 Rome Summer Games, Constantine of Greece became an Olympic medalist: he won the sailing gold medal, the first medal for his country since 1912. After that achievement, he could not help but utter the following phrase: “It’s the most wonderful feeling I’ve ever had, other than getting engaged to my wife.” The young prince, like his intrepid grandfather, has also made the sea his ideal place.

On the other hand, intuitively, King Constantine II worked all his life in favor of International Relations, a training chosen by his son Paul and his grandson. In fact, when on April 21, 1967, Colonel George Papadopoulos carried out a coup d’état in his country, only one idea circulated in the monarch’s mind: to avoid bloodshed at all costs and to find a way out that was as painless as possible for the Greeks, even if it meant a personal sacrifice.

Without a doubt, many of his grandfather’s actions and way of life resonate with his grandson. In the last years of his life, back at home, he thought calmly about death and had even chosen where he wanted to rest forever: “My family doesn’t like it when I talk about it, but I have chosen the place. That part where the graves are shaded by flowering walnut trees, further down and a little to my father’s left. Looking towards the sea.” The same sea that his grandson explores and travels on his numerous adventures.
