Around a thousand people participated this Friday in Ibiza in the demonstration of the ‘Canviem el rumb’ platform to demand limits on tourism, “dignified lives” in the Pitiusas and to criticize the “predatory model” that the Balearic Islands have followed for years that, in their opinion, “has accelerated the social and ecological crisis.”
In the manifesto of the call, the entity has indicated that for many years it has been said that tourism “generated wealth, prosperity and progress” but after so many seasons of breaking tourist arrival records they have asked “where is that wealth?”
Likewise, they have raised several demands such as ban on jets, cruise ships or megayachts. Regarding housing, they have demanded that the price of housing rental be regulated, that all the municipalities of the Pitiusas be declared tourist-stressed areas and that the purchase of housing be limited to people who are not residents of Ibiza.
The platform has claimed a “radical change” in water management and that the oversizing of infrastructure and equipment to meet the demands of the tourism sector is not paid for with public money.
Among other things, they have also demanded effective measures for the protection and conservation of natural spaces. “The decline in tourism It is a demand that is made to the administrations, but it is also a brave bet that must be made by all of us,” they reiterated.
