Biden made these statements to the press on the south lawn of the White Housebefore boarding the Marine One helicopter to travel to Florida and Georgia and survey the damage caused by Hurricane Helene.

Amid the noise of the helicopter’s propellers, a journalist asked him: “Will you support Israel attacking Iran’s oil facilities?”, to which the president responded: “We are discussing that”.

In response to questions from another journalist, Biden affirmed that Israel is not going to take any retaliatory action this Thursday and made it clear that The US does not “allow” Israel to do anythingbut limits itself to giving advice to its largest ally in the Middle East and its largest supplier of weapons. “First of all, we do not ‘allow’ anything to Israel. The president told the press this Wednesday that will not support an Israeli attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities in retaliation for Tehran’s attacks on Israeli territory.

Those Iranian attacks against Israel were the first since Aprilwhen Iran attacked two Israeli air bases in the Negev with missiles and drones and reached points in the occupied territory of the Golan Heights, although Israel, the United States or Arab countries over which they flew managed to intercept most of the projectiles.

Tuesday’s offensive took place in full rise of tension in the region after Israel announced on Monday the sending of troops to southern Lebanon to dismantle infrastructure of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, which comes after more than a week of intense Israeli bombing against the south and east of the country. These Israeli bombings have left almost 2,000 dead and one million displaced, according to Lebanese authorities.
