The University of Valencia reports a scam on its network with mass emails to students demanding 850 euros

The University of Valencia (UV) has alerted of a scam on his network that asked his students by email to pay 850 euros for alleged non-payment of tuition, so The institution has reported this attempted fraud by identity theft before the technological crimes brigade of the National Police.

According to sources from the university, the message was received last week in some emails from students of the center, sent from different student accountswith domain @alumni.UV.es. The UV detected the situation because the message also reached, in a massive way, the email accounts of the university staff (domain @uv.es).

In that fraudulent email the credit of 850 euros for non-payment registrationa bank account was offered to make the transfer and a copy of the payment receipt was requested to be sent to a fake domain account that was trying to simulate an official domain UV email address (@uuv.es).

The UV will provide legal support to victims

The same sources indicate that from the first moment the university community was informed of this attempted fraud and it was verified that there had been no no security breach on the institution’s servers. The UV then proceeded to file a complaint with the police authorities for technological crimes.

The university has enabled a channel to identify students who could have been victims of fraudin order to provide legal support and, also, to expand the complaint presented by the UV about this case, incorporating information from affected people.
