Man in his 50s dies after getting trapped under a forklift truck

A man in his 50s has died after getting trapped under a forklift truck in a tragic accident.

Emergency services were called to an ‘industrial incident’ on Station Road, Erdington in Birmingham shortly after 10am this morning.

A man in his 50s was said to have been trapped under a forklift truck and despite the best efforts of police and medics, it was ‘quickly apparent’ nothing could be done to save him.

Police are continuing enquiries to establish exactly what happened.

In a statement, West Midlands Police said: ‘We were called to reports of a man trapped under a forklift truck at a premises on Station Road, Erdington at around 10.14am this morning (September 17).

‘A man believed to be his 50s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

‘Enquiries to establish exactly what happened are ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.’

A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman said: ‘We were called to an industrial incident on Station Road at 10.11am, two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

‘On arrival we discovered one patient, a man. Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.’

A spokesperson for Birmingham City Council said: ‘West Midlands Police have informed us about the incident.

‘Health and safety inspectors from the council’s environmental health team are on site and are investigating.’
