It comes to an end edition no.72 of Donostia Zinemaldiahe San Sebastian Film Festivalwhich this year was marked by the honorary awards of Cate Blanchett and Pedro Almodovar. Also due to the controversy surrounding the new work of Albert Serra, Lonely afternoonsas well as the documentary he presented about bullfighting. This film was ultimately highly acclaimed, dedicated to the bullfighter. Andrés Roca Reythe finally winner.
Lonely afternoons has won the Golden Shellthe main prize of the festival, after having also won the Feroz Zinemaldia and the prize Guipuzcoan Athenaeum. Quite a consecration for the Catalan filmmaker, already a presence regularly applauded at European festivals but who had never before been so celebrated in his country of origin. He Special Jury Prize has meanwhile been dedicated to the cast of interpreters of The Last Showgirl, headed by Pamela Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis and Dave Bautista.
On the other hand, the award to Best address has been ex-aequo: for the English Laura Carreira by On falling (a drama about immigration) and for Spanish Pedro Martín-Calero for a shocking horror film that stars Ester Exposito and is titled The crying. Both were debuts, and in the case of The crying It has already confirmed its premiere in our country for next October 25hand in hand with Universal Pictures.
The work of Patricia López Arnáiz has been recognized as the Best Leading Performance in The sparkles of Pilar Palomero while Pierre Lottin won the award for Best Supporting Performance by When autumn fallsfilm of François Ozon (a festival regular) who has also won Best script.
Finally, we must highlight the special mention within New directors to C. Tangana by The guitar of Yerai Cortésand the Zabaltegi award for April of Dea Kulumbegashvili after having won the Golden Shell in the 2020 edition with Beginning. You can see the complete record below these lines.
