The Spanish Dani Bárez made history this Saturday. The 35-year-old Valencian defeated the Mexican Víctor Altamirano el Paris in the flyweight category and achieved his first victory in the UFCthe largest mixed martial arts (MMA) league in the world.
After his defeat against Jafel Filho, the Spaniard left a great image on the octagon in this new duel. So much so that he managed to win by unanimous decisionwith a 29-28 in their favor.
In the first round, Bárez’s strategy was very important. The Spaniard threw a straight shot that sent Altamirano to the canvasbut he let him get up to later give him a final blow.
Little by little the fight became even, so much so that in the second round everything was more favorable for the Mexican. Until Bárez, with a left crochet, sent Altamirano to the canvas again.
In the third round Bárez struggled. A spinning blow from Altamirano caused him to kneel, but he managed to recover. Finally, The Spaniard sat down his rival with a punchthus achieving his first victory in the UFC.
“I have always followed my dream, I fulfilled my dream by signing with the UFC, then my skull was fractured in an incident, and I can hardly fight again. My dog died, which may seem silly to some but it was essential in my career. And despite everything, I have continued working for my dream. I knew I had the level to fight in this company, we must always keep moving forward in this life,” he said after the fight at a press conference.
